LOST CAMERA FOUND Pictures from 2005 revealed

Well, this was a surprise! I was searching for flashcards in a deep recess and found an old camera that I thought was lost! Well, it HAD been lost...for FIVE YEARS!!! WHOA...time does fly whether you're having fun or not. hahah. But I have it very documented that fun is was being had in 2005 and continues to be had in 2011! We had a couple of snow trips. One to Tahoe (the cave) with our neighbors and then One to Utah with Aunt Jo and Aunt Ali and visiting a former Roomate, Julie (in Salt Lake City). Ephraim was looking at the pictures and says he doesn't remember this AT all...he was 4...I guess it's time to visit UTAH in the snow again.

Cub Scout Camp!

Ah what a summer Ephraim has had. Space camp, Drama Camp, Two Different Vacation Bible School Camps, Real Camping three times with Mom, Mandarin class, Spanish class, and Cub Scout Camp!! Whoo Hoo. This is Ephraim's first year as a scout. He joined in June. As you can see by the photos he's happy to be here.

Fiddler on the Roof!

Autumn (Golde), Spring (Hodel), Ben (Perchik), and Ephraim (jewish son and Russian soldier) all got to participate in my Windsor Performing Arts Academy this Summer. We did Fiddler on the Roof and received MUCH applause from the community. There were letters to the editor in the paper, personal letters to the company, e-mails, phone calls, etc. All saying what a professional and fantastic job everyone did. I was quite pleased. This is the third production in a year. We're growing and people are finding out that there is incredible talent in our little town.

Well, if I get to this blog 4 times this year, I'll make my new years resolution! HAHAHAH.

I just have to say, I am SO glad I married the little boy pictured above. Of course he was 39 when we married, BUT that little boy is still in that adult body. If it weren't for Reg I just couldn't do the stuff I'm doing. He comes home from work early and takes Ben and Ephraim to baseball practices and games. He takes Ephraim to Gymnastics, He drives Autumn to her Junior college orchestra practices at 7pm on Thursday nights and hangs out down there until 10pm when it's over just because I wake up at 5am every morning to walk 4.5 miles with my girlfriends (it takes us 55min). He volunteers to do this, I don't have to beg, nag, or bribe. He drove our float for the 4th time in the Windsor Day Parade. I had both of my business there, the children's community choir float followed by the Windsor Performing Arts Academy Banner and troupe. We're doing Fiddler on the Roof this year so we had a fiddler walking along with us and fiddling songs from the play. The actors all had black hats on with bottles glued to the top and were wearing their Black Fiddler on the Roof T-Shirts which looked VERY spiffy. Every once in a while the choir float would stop and we'd sing "Tradition" very loudly to orchestrated music while the Troupe would dance. The Audience LOVED IT!!!! Ephraim saw his best friend in the audience while he was singing on the float. As soon as we passed the judges he jumped off and ran to Cade and Cade's mother..she offered to keep him for the afternoon because they play so well together....how could I refuse?! After the parade we zoomed home and Reg took Ben to his baseball game..which he won. We took down and demolished the float and cleaned the trailer (Hay is very messy!!)...THEN I took Spring to a concert she was in (she plays cello) and gave rides to two of her friends. On the way I dropped Autumn off at her string quartet practice, they have a 2 hour gig of just THEM at the "fancy pants" garden tour next week. (So does my choir, we're the two hour block after them.) After dropping the kids off and dropping off the trailer from where it was borrowed I came home and took a 4 hour nap. Ahhhhhh. When I awoke I discovered that Ben and Spring had come home and left with Reg to do a 20 mile bike ride...COOL! I love that man. Autumn was home so we went and set up the near by Methodist Church for our music recital which was at 6:30 that evening. I picked up Ephraim from Cade's and cleaned him up. He performed SO well! All the kids did. We had 29 participants, all students of Autumn, Spring, Ben and mine. About 5 of our students couldn't be in it that night. The recital was lovely, the parents all proud and gleeful. I think one parent summed it up, with tears in her eyes she said, "I feel like I've found the most valuable gem in Windsor...you and your family!". It was heartfelt and appreciated. Reg filmed the recital, ran around buying last minute stuff and helped clean up afterwards then took off with Spring and Autumn to get last minute items for Mother's Day!

What would I do without Reg?! I wouldn't be able to do much. I LOVE him dearly for his willingness to serve, his patience with all the stuff that is always happening at our house...he's a quiet fellow...Not too keen on crowds, but that is what he finds at home. He was telling a friend that the other day he came home from work and there was a piano lesson going on in the front room, math tutoring in the kitchen, a cello lesson in Ben's room, a violin lesson in the classroom, he just went to the bedroom, out the back slider, back around to the front and drove to the Library!!! ahhahahaha!!! Good coping skills! Anyway, Reg is the best gift I've ever gotten from God and my four children are too!

I hardly ever get on this blog, but I hope to do more of that as time goes on. It's a New Year's goal.
I am so greatful as I pass into 2010. I have a healthy family, a clean organized house (generally speaking of course), my yard is manageable, I have loyal friends and family members who love me. My enemies are at bay and life is GOOD! I have only God to thank for this. I pledged my life to him long ago, but every day I pray that he will use me to further his kingdom, and that I will feel those promptings and DO them! (I often get the promptings....it's the action I tend to fall short on)
I hope all of you who check this blog have a great new YEAR and that come what may with our country that we are found on the front lines defending GOD and FAMILY and the CONSTITUTION!!!

Many fun things have happened in August/September It started with Andrea Perona's Wedding...what a lovely affair and a lovely feast. I really enjoyed meeting all my old CVIII friends.

Then Autumn had a birthday and invited a ton of kids over for a murder mystery dinner..they all came in 1930's hollywood garb and really got into it.

Autumn and Ephraim got to take horse back riding lessons! It's very fun for them. Except when Ephraim's horse decided to roll while Ephraim was still in the saddle. The teacher yelled and ran at the horse to keep it on it's feet. The horse bucked and bolted, Ephraim flew off, landed under the horse and the horse jumped over Ephraim's head. It took a while for Ephraim to be convinced to get back on...scary!!! But he did it. He also put in a call to Uncle Nathan, rodeo man, to share the experience. It's so cute when Ephraim is trotting in a circle, he loves the feeling and sings gleefully as he goes. Autumn looks "fancy" posting on her horse, she belongs on an English Saddle....

You know, it was so weird. The boys were drilling all morning to know how to march in formation, "fake" a hit and fall to the ground for the "show" (hundreds of people come to watch) and it was all fun and games, but when the actual battle started I was standing in the woods behind the cannons ( I wasn't in the battle but Autumn and Spring were out there somewhere as nurses) I saw Ben and Ephraim standing a few yards in front of me waiting and watching the big scene before us and Ephraim reached over and took Ben's hand and I just felt a sick wave rise up in my chest and I began to sob uncontrolably. As the cannons roared and the guns smoked and the men and women yelled and manuvered I wept. I was not expecting that reaction but it was horrible. I guess I was also thinking the the civil was happened because our country turned on the church of God and drove them out. And now our country is doing that again and we are ripe for another war on our own land and my children may very well be facing that battle for reals! It was an awesome and sobering event. The weight of that battle was lightened by the wonderful dance held that evening.. The girls were swirling in their hoop skirts and the boys were dashing in their uniforms!

Well the Windsor Performing Arts Academy was a huge success. Autumn, Spring, Ben and Cousin Keenan had a great time and about 150 people attended the show and gave them a standing ovation. Ephraim had a little cameo part where he skips out on stage from the audience with a GIANT swirly lollipop during the bad guys dance and a gangster tries to grab it out of his hands but he yells and kicks the bad guy and runs off. HAHAHA!
Autumn played "Blousey", Spring played "Tallulah", Ben was "Bronx Charlie" and Keenan was "Dandy Dan".

Autumn and Spring participated in a TREK where the Young Men and Women in their stake reinacted a portion of the Willie/Martin Handcart companies. They had such an amazing experience. The fireside was wonderful. Testimonies were really strengthened. It was amazing.

Aloha! We just got back from a week in Hawaii. We spent time with cousin, Julia O'connor, Cousin Maralie Cleaver (and Mark, Melissa, and Chris), We spent time with Foeata Fetokai who is now Foeata Barclayon (husband, Keoki and three ADORABLE kids: Ke'ala, Anna Tela, and La'akea). I also got to see Barbara Elkington quickly (on a whim) as we were leaving BYU-H. I wasn't even sure she was still there....but she was and it was so wonderful to see her looking great. We mostly swam and body surfed the whole time. We did visit the Polynesian Cultural Center. Foeata put on a surprise B-day Beach/BBQ Partyfor Spring and La'akea. The older kids learned how to surf, Ephraim got very good at boogie boarding and body surfing and standing boarding he was bummed he was too little to surf. Ben ate a lot of shrimp (he has good taste). Autumn got some very cool clothes and convinced Spring to "go Hawaiian". They look good! We are grateful for the opportunity we had to go, the protection we enjoyed, and the blessings of doing some missionary work as well. Just can't resist that part...hee hee We've been saving for this trip for over three years...it was totally worth it.

Ephraim was on the K-2 team for Odyssey of the mind. The judges said they were the best they had seen all day (and they performed last!) Their problem...create a set that looks like a candy factory, have a candy maker who explains five different kinds of candy that each have a HEALTHY ingredient, and have a humerous customer. It was completely kid made (points off for any outside help)

Spring was kidnapped for her birthday (last year when she went into young women's ) She'll be 13 next month now...whew time sure flys. Spring went to the 6th grade dance with her girl friends. I had such a fit after chaperoning the dance at the middle school two years ago that this dance was quite fantastic!

Then there's Autumn with her friend from Bellamore (their semi-professional string quartet) They are performing at the Wells Fargo Center next week.

Ben's Odyssey of the mind team won THIRD place in the region this year. They had to design and build a vehicle that could travel four different terrains and change appearance at each one using no man power and no batteries....it was COOL.

The Best Thing about graduation was having my parents come down from Oregon and my best friend, Denise, attend too! I was so proud to have Reg and Ben there to see me in all my educational glory! It's so nice not to have my energy diverted...no more home work..HAH! Now back to the house work. My thesis was on "How does learning to read music affect reading English text for 'at risk' middle school students." My thesis is going to press this week! YAHOO I'm done.

Autumn was nominated for "Girl of the Year" at Windsor Middle School. She also recieved "Best in Strings" (viola) and "Best in Language Arts". She has a lot of friends and is an influence for good in her class. She will be in the Honors core in High School and is joining the debate team and the volley ball team. She teaches piano, violin, and viola but will be dropping some students to play volleyball...choices choices choices....and all good.

It seems that since I've gotten a digital camera I've completely

stopped doing photo albums. I rarely have time to blog so I'm not getting them up here AND they just sit on my computer in the thousands now...quite daunting. So today I'm eating the elephant one bite at a time. These three bites are little snatches of the joy in my life. Bite one. Spring and Autumn dressing the boys up just for fun!

Bite two. We went to San Francisco to Matt and Danielle's baby blessing and took this photo in the nursery because we don't have a family picture with Amie in it. And bite three is when I took Spring and her best friend out of school for her birthday and we got her ears pierced (family rule-age 12), got her contacts, and took her on a clothes shopping spree. WHEEEEEEEEE!!!!! Spring is a buzzy bee hive now and loves to go to YM/YW with Autumn and gets to go to girls camp. YAHOOO!!

Just the thought of Grandma Melba makes a warm feeling well up inside of me. I remember special birthdays at her house during summer vacation. In particular I remember a cool cake with plastic animals on it. I remember camping with her and Grandpa. I loved her nails. She hasn’t aged a bit!! She looks like she has always looked, beautiful. I remember when she took us to the Enchanted Forest. I remember she took us to see the sea lions. I remember how Nathan and Adam drove her crazy and made her laugh. I remember how she loved me and was proud of me. I remember how she never missed a birthday then there got to be too many grandkids for her to keep up. I remember her wonderful stories of her life that she dutifully typed up for me for the family newsletter. She was always so supportive. I remember visiting her with my own family and we went to see Grandpa’s tree. It was special. I remember flying up to Portland and dropping in unannounced and without children! She was playing cards or something with her friends. Boy was she surprised. We went out to eat. I loved my special time with her. I remember her wonderful example of service. Her youthful outlook, her sense of humor, her faith in Christ. I am so glad she was born to be a blessing in my life. Happy Birthday Melba!!!

Home School Valentine Party

Ephraim's homeschool class had a valentine's Day Party. The children learned about good manners and the boys escorted the girls to the table. They did heart math and wrote kind things on valentine cards. We played do you love your neighbor and Somebody loves.....with the parachute. We also did the bee dance!

The world is so much more fun when children are around.

Beach Trip to Bodega Bay

I took the kids and a couple of their friends to the beach! It was so fun. I LOVE the BEACH! We flew a kite and built sand castles and shell museums and all the fun stuff you do at a beach.Spring's friends, Kelly and Lina, came with us. Amie is our new Foster Daughter. If you don't know which one she is, she's the little tyke with dark brown hair and blue eyes! We had a great picnic lunch and hiked out to the tide pools and got star fish and hermit crabs and all kinds of cool shells. We played baseball as well. Two teams of four. It was a blast.

Dad is doing well. So far his heart and carotid artery tests have been good, and today he had a scan to detect any aneurysms. His BP has leveled out, and we started a weight loss and exercise program last night at the YMCA. (This is the one where Holly lost 53# and was featured in the local newspaper with a picture of her holding up her former size 20 pants.) Heidi is keeping busy doing homeschooling with all the kids and running children to football (Jefferson and Anthony) and soccer (Calvin, Alex and Julie). Katie is trying out for the role of Grace in Annie at the Evelyn St. theater. Nathan is interviewing today for an activities director job with the Forest Service in Tillamook. Savages sold and moved out of their house yesterday. Mark still has a couple of weeks obligation at his job so they are floating around between friends and relatives until they come here to live for a few months. They will be building their house next spring, and he got a great electrical engineering job that currently is housed across the street from their building lot. (When I wondered why he would leave a great job in Colorado to take a chance here in the Rogue Valley, he told me that he felt impressed by the spirit to come and had faith that the Lord would provide. The sale of their house and his job offer all came in the same week! Wow...) Give the children big kisses. We are pleased about their many accomplishments, but are particularly grateful for their faithfulness as disciples of Christ. (We feel the same about the parents.) We are being very blessed with our missionary work, and are helping lots of people find jobs, upgrade and pursue training and education. Recently one man came into our "office" at the stake center and thanked us for teaching him power statement skills. He just landed a great job after struggling for three years after a back injury took him out of his EMT career. He felt his presentations made the difference. What joy it brings to us to feel that the Lord has used us in helping to better other people's lives. By the way, we just watched a movie that was very good called "The End of the Spear." Its a true story about some missionary families who went to Ecuador in the 1940's to minister to some aboriginal tribe there. It is well done. There are some violent scenes that may not be appropriate for Ephraim and the underlying themes might be a bit mature for him. But the rest of the family would get a lot out of it, I think. Also, did you see "The Ultimate Gift"? That's a good one for the family, too. Love, Kathleen Seable

Currently working at the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU). I have applied to 7 PA programs, Missouri State (in Springfield), University of Iowa (Iowa City), U of U (much to my father-in-law's chagrin), Idaho State (Pocatello), Rosalind Franklin (Chicago), OHSU (Portland), and Baylor (Houston). I have only heard back from 2 schools so far; I have an interview at Missouri State on Sept 28 and U of Iowa on October 11. Holly: Loves having a baby around again and not being Relief Society President anymore (although, as she said, if you have to be RS Pres, a BYU ward is the best possible situation. Keeps busy with sewing and crafts and taking care of everything (and I do mean everything since I'm not around much!)Kaelynne: Just began 3rd grade and loves school. She has many friends and loves to play games, sew, play on the piano (she plays by ear) and write stories. Her teacher thinks she is one of the most talented writers she has seen and can see her become a writer someday.Mikayla: Started 1st grade and also loves school. She is the actress Of the family and loves to "ham it up." She wants to be "a scientist" When she grows up and will tell you all about how your heart is a muscle orhow white blood cells kill bacteria etc. She also loves to sing anddance.T.J.: Just began kindergarten and also loves school. His teacher likes him but wishes he was a bit more calm... thanks for that curse mom...you remember..."I hope you have a son just like you when you grow up..." He loves to play Star Wars both in real life and on the Playstation (the Star Wars Lego version). Also loves to play outside as all the kids do. My Uncle Don has everything and charm, too. As a kid we loved family vacations visiting him because he was so affectionate and had such exciting stuff! We did not have a lot of anything but siblings. Time with Uncle Don meant, delicious foods, resorts, plane rides, private islands and yachting. Here I am at the helm of one of his yachts. He always made me feel special. I think back and realize that I was able to experience some wonderful things that most people raised broke would never have because he was willing to share. If everyone did that- nobody would feel poor. I am grateful to him and anyone rich willing to enrich the lives of others. Tee hee. Good times. Jo Schaffer

Clean the kitchen
Wheat Bread
2 cups warm water stir in ¼ C honey and sprinkle evenly with 2 TBS of yeast. When it gets frothy add 1 TBS of sea salt and ¼ C olive oil
Preheat oven to 400 F
Add 3 C whole Wheat Flour and mix well. Add one cup at a time, 3 more cups of whole wheat or white flour, or other flour until dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. (May need a little more flour)
Shape into loaves and place on an oiled cookie sheet or in pans. Bake for 20 min.
While waiting for yeast to froth, empty the dishwasher. While mixer is mixing first 3 cups load the dishwasher. While mixing the last 3 cups wipe counters and sweep the floor.
Eat bread in clean kitchen with butter, honey and a cold glass of milk!

REFLECTIONS (Heather Cullen)Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! This newsletter is my Christmas letter this time of year. I just want everyone to know how grateful we are for family. For the older folks who set the example of making time for family even when it hurt. For the middle old folks who stuck together through thick and thin (mostly thick! Hahah) and for the
young folk who continue to delight us with their developing skills and talents and love for each other!
As this year closes the Cullen family finds themselves actively engaged in good causes but not running faster than they have strength! I am finishing my Master’s Degree and will be done in June. I am studying the effect learning music on the reading levels of at risk middle school students. It’s fascinating.
Reg is still a supervisor for Sonoma County and learning all kinds of people skills. He also finds time to sing in the ward choir and play trumpet and has picked up a croquet hobbie. When he comes home from work, he and Ben and Ephraim go to the park for some male bonding. It’s really quite cute.
Autumn is teaching piano and violin and managing her money well, saving for college. She plays viola in a professional string quartet and is taking gymnastics and liking it a lot.
Spring teaches piano and violin and is in leadership at the middle school. She is playing cello in her school orchestra and is loving life! She also takes gymnastics.
Ben is becoming a reliable babysitter! He plays cello and piano and recorder and actually practices! He’s a reading machine and loves school. Ben loves his gymnastics class.
Ephraim is playing piano and violin and loves to work with wood, sawing and hammering and painting away! He’s enjoying homeschooling in kindergarten, and is reading at a first grade level. He is learning to be an acrobat in his gymnastics class.
My children’s choir is growing and all the kids are involved in it too. We have 22 members and a long waiting list. We’re cutting a holiday CD this Saturday.We hope you are all well! Happy Holidays to ALL!

Ahhhh, California! The Autumn weather is warm with cool breezes. The sun sparkles the white grape juice in our "fancy" glasses. We sit around the table and talk and laugh as the leaves whisper of comming holidays and the hammock gently swings inviting us to linger longer.

The Seable Family Reunion in Tillamook, OR was DREAMY! The kids really enjoyed the freedom to run around in "cousin packs" They had so much fun getting to know each other. I especially enjoyed seeing the Ephraim aged lot casting spells at all of the older kids, pretending to be Harry Potters. I was never quite sure if they were deatheaters or Dumbledoore's Army. I particulary loved seeing Nan and Karen, I haven't seen them in YEARS. It was also wonderful to see Stevie and his family. Jerry and his wife Vicki earn the seasoned campers award for sure. Vicki can cook like a champ in her dutch ovens! Playing with Gabriel W. and Syndi McIver was like being a child again. I loved the old days of frolic and enjoyed the new days of fun too and having our kids play together is exceptionally satisfying. Of course, being with my immediate family was great too. All the uncles and Aunts were there which made it magical as well. I think it was the best reunion ever. Carol and Don even had another skinny white dog which seemed appropriate to all my old memories! HAHAH! Wasn't that other dog named Tasha or something like that? Anyway,

I loved seeing you all.

family reunion in Williamsburg, VA

We had a WONDERFUL reunion with Reg's family in Virginia. We stayed at the Woodlands hotel in Colonial Williamsburg. It was so great to see everyone who came. So many people came last minute. I was thrilled and delighted. The highlights were the family dinner at the Italian restaurant, watching home movies, and the nice tea party with the davis clan the next night. Another thing Autumn and I did was go to the local bookstore on Friday night to get the NEW Harry Potter book! We got free glow in the dark glasses too. Cousin "Amy Potter" models them. I have about 200 pictures that I'm going to burn to give to everyone in the Cullen/Davis clan We can't wait to do another one!

Our neighbors invited us out on their boat! What a blast. Autumn goes with them all the time. It was our family's FIRST time all together. Even Reg came. What a treat. The kids loved going fast on the tube. The girls liked going faster than the boys did. I wonder how long that will last? There isn't much better play than water and sun and a FAST BOAT! Ephraim and Ben got to drive and So DID REG! haha! Ephraim was the craziest driver, Ben was the best...sorry Reg.

Discovery Kingdom with the Jarvis family

We got to see the Jarvis family while we visited Sister Sarah Lipman after she had her new baby. We took them to Discovery kingdom and had a wonderful time. It was good to see Heidi going on rides although we both agree, they didn't used to make us feel...well, old and queasy! HAHAHAH!
