There and Back Again: Week 67 Power is Work over Time.

I've been pondering on Power lately. If all things in and on the earth testify of Christ, how about physics? Power (P)= Work(W)/Time (T), Power is measured in Watts (Joules/Second). WORK (W)= Force (F) X Distance (D). Work is measured in Joules. So POWER then is the FORCE you exert along the path over a certain amount of TIME.

I got sick this week for a few days. I've been sleeping in and napping and taking it easy and drinking lots of terrible flu bombs for which I am grateful. (Garlic, Cayanne Pepper, Lemon, Ginger, Honey) ugh...don't take on an empty stomach. I had to be healed by Friday night so we could decorate for the Valentine Dance and Tea Party on Valentine's Day. I'm going to make it.

I wasn't able to do as much work and yet the Lord poured power into me and my work increased with it. I was able to clean a nasty basement that had three long snake skins hanging from the ceiling, lots of mouse and rat and something else poop on the floor and urine dripping down the walls.... We got it cleaned and sanitized. The people who move into this home will be safe.

Somehow I had the Power to get up and walk a mile and a half to get my lungs pumping and blood running to flush out the gunk. It worked. I was still able to help Elder Cullen Rake up a truck load of debris from under the hedge and on the flower beds so when the tulips come up they will look pristine! It was like taking off their blankies. The leaves and debris kept them quite warm.

The weather is warming up wonderfully. today it was 50 degrees F!!! What a pleasure to face the sun and just stand there soaking it in. I prayed for this power and it came. I was in awe of how the Lord answered my prayer and gave me the ability to do what needed to be done AND have time to nap and drink healing, germ burning drinks!

Drawing on the powers of heaven lead me to want to know more how that works. I read a great article The Honor and Order of the Priesthood (June 2012) It was a talk by a general authority on The Power of the Priesthood. He said,

“We have done very well at distributing the authority of the priesthood. We have priesthood authority planted nearly everywhere. We have quorums of elders and high priests worldwide. But distributing the authority of the priesthood has raced, I think, ahead of distributing the power of the priesthood. The priesthood does not have the strength that it should have and will not have until the power of the priesthood is firmly fixed in the families as it should be. …

“The authority of the priesthood is with us. After all that we have correlated and organized, it is now our responsibility to activate the power of the priesthood in the Church. Authority in the priesthood comes by way of ordination; power in the priesthood comes through faithful and obedient living in honoring covenants. It is increased by exercising and using the priesthood in righteousness.

“Now, fathers, I would remind you of the sacred nature of your calling. You have the power of the priesthood directly from the Lord to protect your home. There will be times when all that stands as a shield between your family and the adversary’s mischief will be that power. You will receive direction from the Lord by way of the gift of the Holy Ghost.”

“The power you receive will depend on what you do with this sacred, unseen gift.

“Your authority comes through your ordination; your power comes through obedience and worthiness. …

“Power in the priesthood comes from doing your duty in ordinary things: attending meetings, accepting assignments, reading the scriptures, keeping the Word of Wisdom.”

Fathers, I would remind you of the sacred nature of your calling. You have the power of the priesthood directly from the Lord to protect your home.

I would add that our apostles verify and state that it is the same for women. We access priesthood power the same way. I've been doing it all week. God's power poured into my obedient, repentant life gives me the Force to go the Distance. I am SO grateful for that gift.

I invite you to access the power of God through making covenants with Him by participating in ordinances like baptism, taking the sacrament worthily, and attending the temple as often as you can. If you want to know how to do that I can hook you up with some friends who can teach you. Happy Valentine's DAY!!!
PS I forgot to say that Monday night an oncoming truck hit a deer, swerved into our lane then back and as we swerved around the deer flew over to us and smashed out our bumper...Again we were protected. No harm to our bodies, but the Pearl is back in the shop. Poor Pearl. Thank you Heavenly Father for your protection.
